Roll with History: Our Collaboration with Mini Museum

Vala Marketing

We’re excited to finally share something we’ve been quietly working on for a while. FanRoll has partnered with Mini Museum to create Roll with History - a new collection of dice crafted with real, authenticated historical and scientific materials inside each die. That includes meteorites, chainmail, and even dinosaur fossils. This project brings together two things we care deeply about: meaningful craftsmanship and genuine curiosity. Mini Museum knows how to source, verify, and document real specimens, and we know how to turn carefully handled materials into premium dice that are made to be used, collected, and talked about at the table. Launching January 27 on BackerKit The Roll with History collection will debut through a crowdfunding campaign on BackerKit, launching January 27. The campaign will invite tabletop players, collectors, and history enthusiasts to help bring this project to life. What’s in the Collection? The initial launch includes three distinct products, each representing a different moment in natural or human history: Meteorite D20This die contains an authentic fragment of the Campo del Cielo meteorite, estimated to be around 4.5 billion years old. The meteorite fell to Earth around 2500 BCE, and each fragment is sourced and authenticated through Mini Museum’s process. Chainmail D20Designed with fantasy tables in mind, this die features fragments of 15th-century chainmail, marking the late period of chainmail use in Europe. Dinosaur Fossil Polyhedral SetThe most expansive piece of the collection is a full polyhedral dice set featuring a different dinosaur fossil specimen inside each die. We’ll be revealing additional fossils as we get closer to launch. The first revealed piece is a Tyrannosaurus rex D20, a nod to the “King of the Dinosaurs.” Every specimen used in the collection is handled with care and sealed securely inside resin, creating dice that are both playable and display-worthy. Why We Wanted to Do This “At FanRoll, we’re always asking how we can make things that feel genuinely new,” said Neal Hoffman, CEO of FanRoll Dice. “Taking real fossils or meteorites and turning them into playable keepsakes felt like one of those ideas that shouldn’t exist - but absolutely should. Mini Museum turned out to be the perfect partner.” Mini Museum echoed that sentiment, noting their shared focus on care and quality:“We love finding new ways to share science and history with people. FanRoll’s approach to this project felt thoughtful, fun, and aligned with our goal of making each Mini Museum the best it can be.” A Shared Philosophy Roll with History sits at the intersection of tabletop gaming and scientific preservation. Not every historical fragment belongs behind museum glass - but it still deserves to be handled responsibly, documented clearly, and shared with intention. We’ll be sharing more details as we get closer to launch.
